Mite Box Lent 2017

LentenMiteBoxPoster_2017Since 1960 Santa Cruz Parish, Bolivia has been a Mission Parish of the Diocese of La Crosse. In 2016 a significant transition in the life of the parish began. Over time it is becoming a Local Parish in the Archdiocese of Santa Cruz de la Sierra.  We need the help of many in order to see the process through. The Mite Box has supported the mission over the years and now we need the same help one final time. The prayers, sacrifices and collections among the children and families of the Diocese of La Crosse will be sent to the children and families of the Archdiocese now fully in charge of Santa Cruz Parish. Your participation in the Lenten Mite Box program will help to see that the mission of Fr. Joe Waliejewski will soon come full circle. Your Lenten efforts are much appreciated and sure to be rewarded.

Re: Lenten Mite Box Program

Since 1960, Santa Cruz Parish, Bolivia has been a Mission Parish of the Diocese of La Crosse. In 2016, a significant transition in the life of the parish began. Over time it is becoming a Local Parish in the Archdiocese of Santa Cruz de la Sierra. The Lenten Mite Box Program has supported the Mission Parish over the years and now we need the same help one final time. The prayers, sacrifices and collections among the children and families of our Diocese will be sent to the children and families of the Archdiocese now fully in charge of Santa Cruz Parish. Your participation in the Lenten Mite Box program will help to see that the mission of Fr. Joe Walijewski will soon come full circle. Your Lenten efforts are much appreciated and sure to be rewarded.

Some confusion has also reached us regarding the Mites Boxes and the Rice Bowl program. Let me clarify. The Mite Box program is an outreach from the Missionary Childhood Association or MCA (formerly the Holy Childhood Association or HCA), one of the Pontifical Mission Societies represented in the Mission Office. It is a mandatory annual program in our Catholic Schools, CCD and Religious Education programs for children and youth. It will continue after this year but with some modifications. The Rice Bowl program is sponsored by Catholic Relief Services (CRS) and organized in the diocese by the Social Concerns Office. Rice Bowl is an elective program that may be held any time throughout the year with an emphasis on Lent, but it is not to conflict with or replace the Mite Box program. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Mission Office or the Office of Social Concerns.

Thank you for encouraging the children and youth you serve to participate by prayer and generosity during the Season of Lent, 2017. As usual, the Mission Office will provide you with the boxes you need. We also hope the enclosed posters will make your work of promoting the project as easy as possible.

May God reward you for your efforts in service of Christ and His Church,

Rev. Woodrow H. Pace,

Director of the Mission Office
