Reporting to the Pastor, the Director of Religious Education (DRE) will assist the Pastor in the Faith Formation and Evangelization of the Parish Families. This individual will make an impact by spearheading all our formation programs, with a particular focus on youth and family formation. The Director of Religious Education will be a member of the parish pastoral team and is responsible for administration of the catechetical programs of the parish. In collaboration with the parish staff, this person will facilitate programs which are centered on Sacred Scripture, prayer, service and guiding and empowering parishioners to full and responsible participation in the life of the Church.

This is a full time position.    40 hours / week

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:

  • Oversee the Religious Education Program
  • Recruit, train, support, and evaluate volunteer catechists
  • Communicate with parents and build a working relationship with families
  • Oversee Sacramental prep for First Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation
  • Review, select, and order textbooks, other suitable materials, and supplies
  • Coordinate RCIC
  • Promote youth event opportunities in the parish, deanery and diocese
  • Coordinate Sacramental Prep Retreat for 2nd and 10th Grades
  • Foster small group leaders for youth ministry
  • Coordinate Summer Adventure Camp and Steubenville Conferences
  • Coordinate Vacation Bible School
  • Prepare and oversee budget for the Religious Education Program
  • Coordinate Safe Environment for catechists
  • Create weekly bulletin announcements for all Faith Formation programs
  • Coordinate service opportunities for Confirmation candidates
  • Be an active participant in activities relating to Parish life including the Parish Fall Festival, and Ash Wednesday Soup Supper.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, and ABILITIES:

  • A person with a heart for evangelization and faith formation
  • A committed prayer life, both personally and within a parish community
  • Bachelor’s degree in theology or equivalent preferred from an accredited college or university
  • Experience working in Catholic education, catechesis, and/or youth ministry
  • Knowledgeable of Sacred Scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and Catholic teaching
