Emergent and Early Readers – Best Practices in Balanced Literacy

  • Presenter – Stacia Kohlstedt, Principal for St. Mary of the Assumption School, Richland Center
  • For 3K – First Grade Teachers (teachers of emergent and early readers)
  • Meet with preschool and lower elementary teachers to discuss ways to address needs of early and emergent readers – particularly in the areas of phonemic awareness and phonics. Building a solid foundation with readers now can set them up for a lifetime of reading! Attendees will be asked to send in specific questions or areas of interest ahead of the in-service so they can be addressed!

High School Science Curriculum Development

  • Facilitator – Dr. Sara Giza, principal for St. Joseph’s School in Boyd and Thorp Catholic School (Science Curriculum Team Leader)
  • Are you teaching high school Science? Be a part of the continued development of the Diocese of La Crosse’s Science Curriculum.  This day will be dedicated to reviewing current curriculum and filling in missing subject content area.

  • Nine years ago Bishop William Patrick Callahan directed all middle schools and high schools to use Ascension Press’s Theology of the Body programs to instruct middle school and high school students in the truth of God’s plan for their fulfillment as human persons. This directive is still in place today.  During this session teachers and facilitators will review best practices to engage both students and parents while using this wonderful teaching tool.
