DIRECTOR of MUSIC
The Director of Music is a full-time position at All Saints Parish and a member of the Parish Staff. The Director of Music is responsible for leading the Parish and the wider community in the deep praise and worship of the Triune God through music and the liturgy of the Roman Rite of the Catholic Church. The Director of Music coordinates groups and guides individuals to place their talents at the service of Jesus Christ through prayer, praise and adoration.
To that end, the Director of Music should possess and be prepared to deepen their knowledge of the liturgical and musical tradition of the Church and make use of the organ, which has pride of place in the liturgy of the Church.
Responsibilities
Develop a culture of music within the parish that includes teaching people the musical tradition of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Provide music for all the Masses of Sunday, the Solemnities of the Church calendar, Ash Wednesday, the Sacred Triduum and school masses and functions.
- Work with the Pastor to select appropriate music for the Liturgical Seasons and for particular Masses and other liturgies
- To lead regular practices for the parish choir and a proposed choir for youth.
- To invite people with skill in singing to become cantors and a member of choir.
- To give particular attention to recruiting and developing cantors for Mass.
- To work closely with the Pastor in forming adult and youth choirs appropriate to the Liturgical Seasons and to particular celebrations, namely:
o Sunday 10:00 am Mass Choir
- To have a particular heart for the young and give special effort to encourage youth to participate in the liturgical life of the Church and to that end.
- Assist with music at times of Solemn Benediction and other parish devotions.
- Assist families with the selection of music for funerals as needed, and provide music for Funeral Masses.
- Assist couples with the selection of music for weddings as needed, and provide music at weddings celebrated at the Parish.
- Schedule, promote and execute concerts at the Parish.
- Coordinate the Parish Greeters, Ushers, Sacristans, Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Altar Servers. This includes:
- Creating and maintaining manuals for these positions.
- Communicating with volunteers who fill these positions.
- Scheduling the above volunteers for the weekend and holy-day Masses.
- Training those who will volunteer for these positions with help from the Pastor.
- Up-dating social media platform in conjunction with the Parish Staff and volunteer.
- To maintain an annual budget for music and liturgy
- To maintain a spirit of good-cheer and collaboration, especially with the Parish Staff and Parish volunteers.
Schedule Expectations
- Be present on weekends and holidays, namely:
- New Year’s Eve & Day
- The Sacred Triduum and Easter o
- Memorial Day Weekend o
- Labor Day Weekend o
- Festival Weekend o
- Thanksgiving Day and weekend
- Christmas
- Attend the weekly Staff Meeting
- Maintain an office at the Parish Center, it being understood that the Director of Music might maintain non-traditional office hours.
- Be present at Faith Formation liturgies if needed.
Attend workshops, choral reading sessions and liturgy conferences oriented toward the needs and talents of our choir.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
