Digital Evangelist

  • Position summary: The Digital Evangelist serves a critical role in the Diocese of La Crosse’s mission to “facilitate encounters with Christ” through creative, intentional and data-informed digital evangelization. Rooted in the Catholic Faith and skilled in communication strategy, this position manages diocesan social media accounts, including scheduling, publishing and engagement.
  • Reports to: Director of Communications and Public Relations
  • Works closely with: Graphic and Media Designer, IT and Multimedia Specialist, Catholic Life contributors, curia staff, pastors and parish teams.
  • Responsibilities:
    • Digital Evangelization
      • Manage diocesan digital evangelization software; train users and promote best practices
      • Build and nurture online communities that foster discipleship, prayer and faithful Catholic witness
      • Analyze audience behavior and engagement data to inform outreach decisions and target under-served or disengaged populations
      • Create and curate content for social media platforms; respond to engagement with pastoral sensitivity and clarity
    • Content Creation and Publishing
      • Develop and publish the diocese’s monthly email newsletter with a focus on clarity, mission and aesthetic quality
      • Ensure content is accurate, theologically sound and aligned with the mission of the Church
      • Research, write and produce digital content including blog posts, articles and social media posts
    • Collaboration and Consultation
      • Support parish-based digital evangelization efforts by providing training and shared resources to pastors, parish staff and volunteers
      • Support curia offices, diocesan-wide initiatives, campaign planning and curia communication strategy
      • Work alongside the Graphic and Media Designer and IT & Multimedia Specialist to develop communications that invite people into deeper encounter with Christ
    • Mission, Impact and Evaluation
      • Track metrics and engagement to assess and refine strategies for mission impact
      • Routinely evaluate the effectiveness of diocesan digital tools and platforms in facilitating authentic evangelization and encounter with Christ
      • Monitor Catholic media trends and digital innovations
    • Competencies
      • Ability to balance creative work with administrative precision
      • Ability to translate theological concepts into accessible digital content
      • Pastoral sensitivity in public communication
      • Ability to craft platform-specific content that meaningfully engages diverse audiences
    • Qualifications
      • Demonstrated experience in digital evangelization, social media management or digital marketing
      • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to tailor content to diverse audiences
      • Experience in podcasting or media interviewing preferred
      • Highly organized, self-starting and capable of managing multiple deadlines independently
      • A deep understanding of and commitment to the teachings, liturgy and traditions of the Catholic Church
