The Diocese of La Crosse is seeking a highly qualified Diocesan Finance Officer (DFO) to serve as its Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Reporting to the Bishop and Moderator of the Curia, the DFO oversees diocesan finances and buildings and grounds, financial risk management, and the Office for Temporalities, ensuring that fiscal policies align with Church law, diocesan vision, and regulatory requirements. This senior leadership role manages accounting, investments, treasury operations, audits, insurance and benefits programs, payroll, and risk management while serving as the chief financial spokesperson of the Diocese. The DFO also supervises staff, provides guidance to parishes, collaborates with external advisors, and represents the Diocese in professional organizations.

The ideal candidate will be a practicing Catholic in good standing with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related experience (CPA, MBA/MPA preferred), at least five years of leadership and fiscal management experience, and expertise in GAAP, investment strategies, and business law. Strong integrity, organizational skills, and the ability to manage sensitive information are essential. A collaborative leadership style, strategic planning ability, and dedication to serving the mission of the Church are also required. This is a full-time, on-site position (Monday–Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends), requiring reliable transportation and a willingness to travel as needed.
